Modern Toss Redesign U2's Joshua Tree for Becks

We went for Joshua Tree by U2 because they're the undisputed masters of pomp rock. No one does it bigger. Like all the best artists they take the smallest, unpolished gem of an idea and weave a mattress of glory round it. At Modern Toss we like to think we do that too. Of course when we're actually working we prefer to kick back to a bit of Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass. His LP cover with a nude Spanish woman covered in a whipped cream wedding dress is a high point in graphic art and says all you need to say about Herb's commitment to making the world a better place to live in. It's a visual feast. Its fair to say we had quite a few preliminary ideas for the U2 cover which we eventually rejected, on grounds of taste as much as anything else. But we're very pleased with the finished result. It's one of our best. We hope Bono and the boys like it an' all !
cheers!
